With so much gruesome history there’s no better place to scare yourself at Halloween, than the streets of London. Whether you’re looking for an adrenaline rush, costume party, or just want to chill out with some snacks and a horror movie, there are plenty of options to choose from.
The London Dungeon – The Home of Halloween
Every year the London Dungeon hosts ‘The Home of Halloween’ – a show that lasts for just one week at the end of October. Tickets always sell out, so best to book in advance to avoid disappointment. This year the show features a brand new character named The Master of Tricks, who will guide you through London’s dark past and offer you the chance to test your confidence through horrible dares and heart pounding surprises. What’s best about this event, however, is the gripping storytelling. Along the way you’ll get to meet a whole host of historical villains including Jack the Ripper, Sweeney Todd, Guy Fawkes and Henry VIII.
Russell Edwards’ Jack the Ripper Tour
Earlier this year author Russell Edwards supposedly solved the long standing Jack the Ripper mystery using the only piece of forensic evidence relating to the case in existence. While highly debated among armchair detectives, it’s certainly spiked interest in his Ripper tours around Whitechapel. On Halloween night Edwards is hosting one of his “meal and tour” combos. Here you can enjoy a nice pub dinner at the infamous Ten Bells public house, while listening to his claims, as he transports you back to 1888.
Twisted Circus Halloween Festival
Weird circus creatures, fire eating dancers, zombie body poppers, demon clowns – the Twisted Circus Halloween Festival is guaranteed to scare you out of your wits, yet provide one of the most entertaining nights out in all of London. The event takes place at the IndigO2 with DJs Colin Francis, Maze and Masters, Moses Midas and Maestro.
The Mansion Halloween Ball
The Mansion is a nightlife concept, which host parties throughout London and every year they host a very popular ball for those who are looking for something a little different. This event isn’t your typical nightclub, it’s held in a secret location in Holborn which will only be revealed 48 hours before the event takes place! The party itself will feature a vast array of entertainment including tarot readings from famed psychic Laura Boyle; live music from Sassy La Showdoll; world class sax playing from Alan Short; and a special showcase of old-school horror movies to make the night complete. If you’re lucky enough to attend, remember to dress up, as those without a spooky costume will be denied entry. Click Here
Dracula and BFI Southbank
If you’d prefer a night watching scary movies, head down to the BFI Southbank to watch Bella Lugosi thrill and charm in one of the most iconic performances of Dracula to ever grace the big screen. Tickets to this gothic masterpiece are between £8.50 and £12.50 and are expected to sell out very quickly. If you can’t get in, there’s no need to worry, virtually every cinema is airing something that’ll make the grade.
These five events barely scratch the surface. Wherever you are in the capital there’s bound to be an abundance of Halloween themed activities taking place. If you’d prefer to do something a little less conventional, perhaps viewing the old streets from above on the London Helicopter will give you more of a rush?
